Now he has urged them to keep battling for results over the last nine games of the season, starting on Saturday at Sunderland.
Hurzeler brought in Olivier Boscagli for the home test by Arsenal as he protected Lewis Dunk’s troublesome knee.
Amid much talk about the Gunners’ approach, the game also saw the former PSV man produce quality, aggression and tactical know-how to make life tough for the leaders.
Boscagli has had limited opportunities this season but gave the clearest indication yet of what he can offer when required.
While Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke have been regular starters on merit this season, the skipper will serve a two-game ban if he picks up one more yellow card in the next three games.
Asked about Boscagli, Albion head coach Hurzeler said: “I think a really positive performance as well from him.
“We saw what he’s capable of doing and therefore, a lot of positives, that’s what I mean.
“We’re talking too much about the negatives. We have a lot of positive things.
“We had a lot of positive performances on the pitch (against Arsenal) and it’s about us to keep pushing, to keep fighting and try to get the results.”
Albion have slipped back to 14th in the table with statisticians at Opta currently predicting a 13th-place finish after calculating that they will climb back above Crystal Palace in the run-in.
Asked what was required from here on in, Hurzeler said: “Keep working hard, trying for to go from game to game, trying to get the results we need, and then we see what’s possible.”
Sunderland will go into Saturday’s game stung by an FA Cup exit at League One’s bottom side Port Vale but with at least five players, including centre-forward Brian Brobbey and key midfielder Noah Sadiki, expected back from injury or suspension.
