Manchester United are enjoying a weekend off thanks to their early elimination from the FA Cup. The Red Devils were beaten by Brighton in round three but top four rivals Liverpool and Chelsea have both had an extra fixture on their calendar.
Michael Carrick’s side also have no midweek responsibilities, having failed to qualify for Europe this season. That means by the time they face Aston Villa on March 15 they’ll have had 11 days between games.
If they win that match it could be huge for their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. United and Villa are level on points in third and fourth place respectively, with Chelsea just three behind the pair.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season could have a big bearing on United’s managerial plans and transfer prospects. Here are the latest lines from around Old Trafford.

Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel was the star of the show once more on Saturday. The teenager added two more goals to his tally for the season as United’s Under-18s put Nottingham Forest to the sword.
Gabriel’s first came eight minutes before half-time when his effort from outside the box appeared to take a deflection on its way into the top corner. There was nothing fortunate about his second, though, as he twisted and turned before curling an effort high beyond the Forest goalkeeper’s dive.

Jay McEvoy, Louie Bradbury and Noah Ajayi were also on target in a 5-2 win for Darren Fletcher’s team. Gabriel now has 16 goals in 18 league appearances this season despite only turning 15 in October.
Luis Enrique backed
Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has sung the praises of Luis Enrique. The Paris Saint-Germain boss is among those to have been linked with the Old Trafford job if Michael Carrick isn’t given the reins permanently, though he may yet end up extending his stay in France.

“Luis Enrique would be a dream coach for Man United,” Evra told Stake as he shared his verdict on the former Barcelona manager. “I love the man, I love his philosophy, what he went through in his personal life and overcame it shows his personality.
“The job he’s done at PSG by bringing them a Champions League without Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Neymar, it’s a fantastic job. Players would have to work really hard to play for Man United, they’ll have to run a lot and I think Enrique would bring that.”
