National Highways had been due to shut the A14 between junctions 51 and 50, between Needham Market and Stowmarket, tonight.
However, the agency has confirmed the closure will no longer go ahead to help minimise disruption for fans heading to and from the game.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “There will be no planned closures due to an Ipswich FC match.
“This is to ensure no delays for home and away supporters travelling to and from the game.”
Overnight repair work will now resume on Wednesday and continue between 8pm and 6am each night until Monday, 16 March.
During the closures, a signed diversion route will be in place:
Exit the A14 at junction 51 and join the A140 northbound
Continue on the A140 to the A140/A143 roundabout
Take the first exit onto the A143 towards Bury St Edmunds
Follow signs along Compiegne Way to A14 junction 43 (St Saviours interchange)
Rejoin the A14 eastbound or westbound from there
The spokesperson added: “We recognise how disruptive closures on this stretch of the A14 can be for residents, but these repairs are essential to prolong the life of the road and reduce the need for larger-scale work in the future.”
