Manchester United’s André Onana aims to continue in a major European league if he can’t find a new club in England.

Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas revealed this and Günebakış have relayed his comments.

The Cameroon international lost his place at Old Trafford at the start of the season. He dropped further down the pecking order after Senne Lammens’ arrival at Manchester United on summer deadline day.

Therefore, the Red Devils allowed the stopper to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan deal.

The Turkish club haven’t agreed a purchase option or obligation with the Premier League side.

Manchester United’s price for André Onana

Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Turkey that the Manchester United man’s recent mixed performances haven’t convinced Trabzonspor. Therefore, he is likely to return to Old Trafford after this season.

Manchester United aim to collect €45-50m for the former Inter Milan man. This, however, seems to be an issue for Trabzonspor.

Onana would return to Manchester United, and his desire is to join another English club.

“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” he said.

“I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe. His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.”

The Süper Lig side’s manager, Fatih Tekke, said Onana will make his own decision on his future.

“Onana is on loan with us. There have been matches where he didn’t play well. There have also been many matches where he played well. I’m very pleased with Onana’s positivity, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of character,” Tekke explained.

“You have transferred from one of the best teams in the world and you have experienced problems. He feels very comfortable here. The chairman’s words reflect Onana’s own thoughts. But this can sometimes change in a match. He is very happy here, but he will make his own decision about his future.”

Analysis: Value, transfer and aims

Onana has kept four clean sheets and conceded 31 goals from 22 matches in all competitions so far. It’s no surprise Trabzonspor aren’t willing to spend big on a player who has had mixed performances.

If he returns to Old Trafford, the Cameroonian is likely to be a backup for Lammens. This could force him to find a new club in the summer. With his desire to find another club in Europe, he could return to Italy or move to Spain or France.

Transfermarkt value the player at €12m, which is down from a high of €45m in 2019. Manchester United are clearly not going to get €45-50m and would be fortunate to receive half of that.

The goalkeeper is represented by the LIAN Sports Group and it’ll be down to them to find a new destination in the summer.

A major block will be his contract, which lasts until 2028. Finding a club to match what he earns at Manchester United is going to be difficult, a situation the Red Devils faced with Anthony and others.
