Manchester United are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window as the club prepares for a major rebuild in midfield.
One key factor behind those plans is the upcoming departure of Casemiro, who confirmed earlier this season that he will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
That decision has accelerated the club’s search for a long-term replacement in the centre of the pitch, with several midfielders monitored and added to a shortlist.
One player attracting growing attention is Elliot Anderson, who has impressed since joining Nottingham Forest.
According to talkSPORT, interest in the English midfielder is intensifying across the league after standout performances this season.
Anderson recently produced another eye-catching display when he scored a superb goal to earn Forest a 2-2 draw against Manchester City, who are one of the clubs monitoring him, at the Etihad Stadium.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past year after joining Forest from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024.
As mentioned, Manchester City are also believed to be strong admirers of Anderson and could step up their pursuit depending on developments involving Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder remains a crucial figure at the Etihad, but his future has become a talking point.
Rodri’s current contract runs until 2027, and Real Madrid are understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation.
If Rodri were to leave, Manchester City could accelerate their plans to recruit a long-term replacement – potentially placing Anderson at the top of their shortlist.
That scenario could complicate Manchester United’s chances of completing a deal.
The Red Devils have already been linked with several midfield options across England, including Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anderson himself as the club assesses possible successors to Casemiro.
Forest are believed to value Anderson at significantly more than the £35 million they paid to sign him, meaning any transfer battle between Premier League rivals could quickly escalate the price.
For now, however, the midfielder’s future may ultimately depend on what happens with Rodri – a situation that could shape the transfer plans of both Manchester clubs in the months ahead.
