Michael Carrick suffered his first loss as Manchester United interim head coach on Wednesday night as William Osula scored an injury-time winner for Newcastle United.
After Jacob Ramsey was sent off the home side, United played over an hour against 10-men. Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead shortly after the red card after he was brought down inside the box by Bruno Fernandes, only for Casemiro to level before the break.
United dominated possession in the second half but created little chances. After Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte came close, Eddie Howe’s men nicked a winner when Osula curled the ball past Senne Lammens.

With Liverpool and Aston Villa both losing, United remain third in the Premier League. But Chelsea’s emphatic 4-1 win at Villa Park means Carrick’s men could drop to sixth with defeat against Villa next weekend.
