Mohamed Salah is closing in on a move away from Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window with Saudi Pro League clubs now readying bids.

The 33-year-old has failed to live up to the lofty expectations he has set for himself this season and there is now a feeling he could be allowed to move on.

A previous bust-up Arne Slot is also believed to be impacting his future, and despite both parties having put their differences aside, concerns have lingered.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that a “huge” offers from the Saudi Pro League would be enough to tempt Liverpool into accepting.

Speculation about the Egypt international’s future has been rife over the last season season, and the time may now have come as Liverpool are already eyeing replacements for Salah.

Mohamed Salah closes in on Liverpool exit

Football Insider revealed on 13 February that Liverpool are open to Salah’s departure and are prepared to accept an offer for him in the summer.

Saudi interest has not faded, with clubs in the Middle East keen to hand him a mega deal to make him the face of the league after missing out previously.

“I think the time has come for Salah to move on,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Liverpool haven’t been at their best this season and he’s been a big part of that, he’s not playing anywhere near the level he was last season when he was breaking records.

“He isn’t scoring goals and far too often isn’t involved in the game enough to justify his poor record in front of goal, and that has to be a concern.

“Plus, there was the behind the scenes stuff with the manager which they’ve moved on from now, but there’s no doubt it has left a bit of a sour feeling.

“So when you add everything up, if a Saudi club is going to come in with a huge offer, I think Liverpool will be ready to take it and move on.

“And I expect Salah would be open to that as well with how this season has gone for him, it’s probably the best decision for everybody involved.”

Liverpool set sights on Salah replacement

As part of their preparations to let Salah move on this summer, Liverpool are already eyeing a number of potential replacements for the winger.

Rio Ngumoha has been heavily tipped as the long-term replacement for the Egypt international, but big-money signings are also being considered ahead of the summer window.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Anthony Gordon is on Liverpool’s radar and remains one of their top targets to replace Salah.

Reports have suggested Gordon is growing more likely to leave St James’ Park this summer after what has proven to be a frustrating season so far.

While the 24-year-old prefers to play on the left, he would strengthen Slot’s front three and allow another option to fill in on the right-hand side.
