Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash came off injured in the defeat to Chelsea
Matty Cash suffered an injury against Chelsea
Unai Emery confirmed that Matty Cash suffered an injury during Wednesday night’s match against Chelsea.
The right-back was substituted at half-time due to a calf issue and will now undergo a scan to assess the severity of the injury.
Cash had previously missed matches against Brighton and Newcastle United with a minor knee problem but had started the last three games.
Lamare Bogarde came on at the start of the second half, replacing Cash, and could be called upon to start against Lille in next week’s Europa League first-leg match in France.
“We will check him tomorrow. We will do a scan,” Emery said when asked about Cash.
“Hopefully not a lot [of time out]. He had some doubts about his calf.”
The loss to Chelsea leaves Villa just three points ahead of the Blues, despite having had the chance to move nine points clear before kick-off.
Douglas Luiz gave Villa an early lead in the fourth minute, but Joao Pedro turned the game on its head before half-time.
Cole Palmer added a third for Chelsea, and Pedro completed his hat-trick, rounding off another difficult night for Villa following last week’s 2-0 defeat to bottom club Wolves.
