Bournemouth’s Luis Sinisterra is now expected to return to the South Coast, after fresh reports from Brazil state Cruzeiro have made a definitive decision not to sign him permanently.

According to RTI Esporte, the Brazilian club have internally concluded that they will not trigger the purchase clause in Sinisterra’s loan agreement. This is no longer framed as a possibility, as we recently covered.

The decision has been taken following an internal evaluation of the Bournemouth player’s performances and the contractual conditions tied to a permanent transfer.

Bournemouth purchase clause will not be activated

RTI Esporte is one of the more reliable outlets in the Minas Gerais state, which is home to Cruzeiro. They report that the sporting targets required to activate the mandatory purchase clause have not been met.

As a result, Cruzeiro retain the option to end the deal at the conclusion of the loan without additional costs.

The agreed fee to acquire 100% of the player’s rights stands at €3.5m (£3m) to Bournemouth. However, the Brazilian side do not intend to make that investment.

This adds clarity to a situation that had previously revolved around injury struggles and limited starts. Now the focus is financial and strategic.

Details on internal assessment

RTI even revealed that Cruzeiro’s executive director, Bruno Spindel, believes the investment does not represent sufficient value at this stage. The club are assessing cost-benefit carefully and prioritising signings capable of delivering immediate technical impact within their budget limits.

The decision also forms part of a broader squad adjustment under manager Tite. Cruzeiro are attempting to balance finances while refining the squad for the remainder of the season. Therefore, they are already planning to look for alternative attacking options who better fit both their tactical model and financial framework.

For Bournemouth, this development sharpens the picture ahead of the summer. Sinisterra remains under contract with the Premier League side. With Cruzeiro opting out of the €3.5m (£3m) deal, Bournemouth are now set to reassess his situation once the loan concludes.

In the end this is no longer about waiting to see whether targets are reached. A decision has been made, and the winger’s return to England is just a matter of time.
