KRASNODAR, RUSSIA – May 24, 2025: RUSSIAN PREMIER LEAGUE. FC Krasnodar – Dynamo Moscow. FC Krasnodar midfielder Eduard Spertsyan shout to fans atfer victory in RPL Championship
Eduard Spertsyan has been the subject of a failed move on more than one occasion. A transfer to Southampton collapsed in August 2025, with the player’s agent at time sharing his anger towards Krasnodar.
Leeds United have been linked at multiple points in recent years. That was even before Daniel Farke arrived at the club, and it’s inevitable the links appeared again afterwards because the pair have worked together.
Farke was appointed as Krasnodar manager in January 2022, however, events meant he wouldn’t be staying in Russia long.
Shortly after the invasion of Ukraine, the manager and his coaching staff left the club. Due to only being there a short time and the winter break, Farke never managed a competitive match.
He did take training though, with the Leeds United manager building a relationship with Spertsyan.
What Spertsyan says about Leeds United and Southampton
During a lengthy – and at times bizarre – interview, Russia’s Sport Express asked if the transfer to Southampton fell through because the club didn’t want to do business with a Russian club.
“Yes, basically it all comes down to the fact that they don’t want to work with Russia,” Eduard Spertsyan replied.
That directly contradicts what his agent said at the time.
The Russian source then suggested perhaps the collapse was a blessing in disguise given Southampton aren’t close to promotion.
“Everyone was teasing me: so, where’s your club? I don’t know whether I should be happy that I didn’t transfer. I’ll say this: everything happens for the best. Maybe it’s a good thing, no one knows.”
Asked if anything happened in the recently concluded window, he said: “Nothing. I just read something in the news. And last winter, only Leeds United were there.”
On whether he knows anything about the Red Bull Group trying to sign him via another club to then get him at Leeds United, the 25-year-old said: “I don’t know anything about it at all. Honestly. These questions aren’t for me.”
Sport Express then asked if he’s in contact with Daniel Farke: “Not directly. I had a positive experience working with him. He was one of the first foreign coaches I worked with. The training process was a little different, and that was interesting. Even though we only worked together for a month and a half.”
No agent – Waiting for some transfer magic

Eduard Spertsyan still wants to move west, but he hasn’t got an agent. Having gone through multiple representatives, he’s now just leaving it all to the wind.
Asked how he’ll get his big move if he hasn’t got an agent, the midfielder said: “He who wants will always find a way.”
Interested clubs are advised to contact his family or Krasnador directly. Whether Southampton or Leeds United can still be classed as that is questionable.
This was always going to be a difficult transfer to pull off. Spertsyan will be on huge wages in Russia so he doesn’t need to leave for money. The sporting ambition is there, but it’s unclear if it’s at the level to make him push for a move.
Agents have tried on his behalf and not been able to get all the pieces in place.
Now there’s no agent it’s even more difficult.
