Brentford moved to bolster their ownership structure on Monday, announcing further investment and two new appointments to the board of Best Intentions Analytics Limited, the holding company that oversees the club

Prakash Melwani, a longtime senior executive at Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset manager, and Sir Lucian Grainge CBE, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, have joined the BIA board.

They come alongside existing minority investors, philanthropist Gary Lubner and filmmaker Sir Matthew Vaughn, whose respective companies have each increased their shareholdings in Best Intentions Analytics.

Matthew Benham, who took full control of the club in 2012, remains the majority owner.

Lubner and Vaughn first became minority shareholders in July 2025, through their companies This Day Sports and Media Limited and MARV Bee Limited.

The holding company structure itself was created in February 2025, when Benham transferred his shares into Best Intentions Analytics, a restructuring that has since enabled the club to attract further investment.

BIA Board Chair and Brentford FC Chief Executive Jon Varney pointed to the breadth of expertise the new investors bring. “They bring decades of experience from industries that will support the club’s ambitions as we continue to challenge and thrive in the Premier League,” he said.

Sir Matthew Vaughn, speaking eight months on from his initial investment, expressed confidence in the direction of the club. “When Gary and I closed our first round of investment, we knew we were on to something good. And six months on, that’s proving to be true with a competitive squad, a brilliant head coach and an off-pitch team that’s second to none.”

Lubner emphasised the community dimension of his continued involvement. “Brentford stands for more than just football excellence. Its commitment to community, integrity, and social progress reflects principles that matter most to me,” he said.

Together, the investor groups bring expertise spanning finance, music and entertainment, areas the club has identified as central to expanding their commercial reach.
