UEFA have confirmed that Galatasaray supporters will not be able to attend the Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds will host the Turkish club in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Merseyside on March 18, more than a week after the away trip to Istanbul.

Liverpool will travel to Turkey to face Galatasaray on March 10. This will mark the second time this season that the Reds have made the trip to Rams Park, having previously lost 1-0 during the league phase of the competition.

However, there will be no away fans for the return fixture as UEFA has prohibited Galatasaray from selling tickets to its supporters for one away game due to the “throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks and crowd disturbances”, reports the Daily Star.

The European governing body is penalising Galatasaray fans for their conduct during their 3-2 loss at Juventus on February 25 – a match which saw them narrowly advance to the last-16.

Italian media reported that Galatasaray fans clashed with home supporters and local police prior to the match. A father and daughter were also reported to be taken to hospital after being hit by a firecracker.

Galatasaray has also been handed a €40,000 (£34,700k) fine as part of UEFA’s Appeals Body ruling. In a statement, the club confirmed: “An appeal will be filed with the UEFA Appeals Committee against this decision.”

Before their first leg, Liverpool will once again a trip to Molineux to face Wolves in the FA Cup – where they suffered a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday evening in the Premier League.

Regarding their performance, Slot said: “Same old story. Recently, we are picking up points because many times we’ve scored from set-pieces.

“But what did not change in the last five, six or seven games is that we struggle and find it very hard to score from the open-play chances that we do create.

“Not as many as I would like from all the ball possession we have, but enough and far more than the other team. But, end result, we score one and they score two – and indeed another time in extra time, so it sums up our season again in this game as well.”
