Everton are exploring opportunities to hold a warm weather training camp before the resumption of their Premier League duties – but will not be heading to the Middle East, as they did last year.

David Moyes is keen to take his players away after they secured a 2-0 win at home to Burnley on Tuesday night. The Blues’ next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, when they travel to Arsenal for an evening kick-off.

The 10-day break has long been identified as a chance to train elsewhere – something Moyes did with the squad during a similar period last season.

When asked about his plans after a second victory in four days moved Everton just one point off the top seven, the manager joked he would be taking the players warm weather training in Glasgow.

A trip is being looked at, however, though one destination that has been ruled out is the Middle East amid the escalating conflict in the region.

It had been one of several areas under consideration for the break, the result of having been knocked out of the FA Cup, which will take centre stage this weekend.

Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, is understood to have been one location under consideration.

Moyes took his players to the UAE for a similar excursion at the end of February last year.

A trip to that area of the world has been ruled out after the outbreak of war over the weekend, when the USA and Israel launched air strikes on Iran.

The UAE is one of a number of states in the region that has since been hit in retaliatory action.
