Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is set to give Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw additional time to confirm their fitness for Wednesday’s match against Newcastle, following both players being substituted due to illness during the victory over Crystal Palace.
Shaw was replaced in the first half by Noussiar Mazraoui, whilst Maguire was substituted in the second half for Ayden Heaven. Neither defender sustained an injury, with Carrick confirming both were unwell.
He now hopes they will be fit enough to retain their spots in the starting line-up against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with both included in the squad travelling to Tyneside on Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re hoping so. We’re working towards it,” Carrick said when questioned if Shaw and Maguire would be fit.
“They weren’t feeling too good, so we’ve still got a bit of time to the game and we’ll just have to see how they feel. We’ll obviously give them every chance.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“It wasn’t an injury. Both of them weren’t feeling too good. It’s one of those things really, but we’ll just have to see how they are today and tomorrow morning.”

Man United may be without Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount at Newcastle, as neither player has returned to full training. Martinez has missed the last two matches due to a calf injury, while Mount has been out for five games with an injury he sustained in training.
Matthijs de Ligt hasn’t featured for Man United since the end of November as he continues to manage a back injury.
Newcastle will without Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar and Lewis Miley, with Tino Livramento not expected to be involved, although the England defender is very close to a return.
Nick Woltemade is a doubt having suffered an illness since the 3-2 defeat to Everton, but Jacob Ramsey is fit to play.
