Ezri Konsa reacted to supporters after Aston Villa’s 2-0 defeat at Wolves last week, but he will not face any sanction from the club
Ezri Konsa was not happy after the full-time whistle following Aston Villa’s defeat at Wolves
Ezri Konsa has been reminded to keep his emotions in check but will not be fined by Aston Villa after his heated exchange with fans after the defeat at Wolves.
Villa were embarrassed at Molineux last Friday, becoming only the second team to lose to Wolves in the Premier League this season.
The defeat allowed Manchester United to climb above Villa after their win over Crystal Palace, and with tensions running high at full-time, Konsa became involved in some unsavoury scenes.
Capping off a terrible night in Wolverhampton, Konsa – who was wearing the captain’s armband – appeared to exchange words with some Villa supporters after the final whistle.
The centre-back was seen shouting towards the travelling fans before being pulled away by a member of Villa’s staff.
Clearly furious about something, Konsa then walked off before pointing back towards the away end when asked by Amadou Onana what the issue was.
It remains unclear what was said during the incident, but it brought a miserable evening for Villa to a close.
On Tuesday afternoon, ahead of Villa’s crucial match against Chelsea, Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany spoke about the incident.
“We spoke with Ezri and we felt that the emotions were very sensitive on both sides,” he explained.
“We spoke with him to try to control the reactions. At the same time, I think that to insult or to have a bad reaction with a player is not something we should consider as something acceptable.
“So, the club talked to the player and I am sure that the fans also need to understand that the emotions of the players after a defeat are in a sensitive moment.
“Angriness was in the stands and in the dressing room, and at that moment, we needed to have calm minds, every one of us, to try to carry on and to get together.”
Villa boss Unai Emery added: “I spoke with him to lead the team defensively.”
