Liverpool’s new number eight Dominik Szoboszlai has reached a new level this season, but Steven Gerrard thinks he can get even better.

The Liverpool legend was on the broadcast for Liverpool’s clash with Wolves — the first of two trips to Molineux this week.

He was full of praise for the Hungarian’s evolution in recent months. Szoboszlai is often compared to Gerrard as an all-action midfielder with some of the best technique you’ll see.

You can only save one Wolves star from Rob Edwards’ sinking ship, who do you want at Liverpool?

Mateus Mane is the exciting pick, but could one of his teammates address a more pressing position? 👀

Despite the vast improvement, Gerrard thinks he can become even more formidable by increasing his attacking output.

Steven Gerrard urges Dominik Szoboszlai to keep pushing for goals

Szoboszlai has already surpassed his best-ever goal tally since arriving at Anfield, with ten goals in all competitions. His previous best at Liverpool was eight.

He has a ways to go to get to the level of production Gerrard was reaching during his prime Liverpool years, but that’s exactly what the former captain wants him to do.

Gerrard told TNT Sports before the game: “He’s really stepped forward, it’s gone to another level now. One of the best strikers of the ball I’ve seen for a long time.

“He needs to keep arriving from a No.10 or an attacking 8 position, he can get more goals and take his game to the next level.”

It was widely theorised that Florian Wirtz’s arrival would relegate Szoboszlai to a reduced attacking role, but it has only spurred him on. Arne Slot has made mistakes at Liverpool this season, but he deserves credit for figuring out how to get both players in the side.

That Szoboszlai can play in virtually any position has helped in that regard.

Where will Dominik Szoboszlai rank among PL midfielders when all is said and done?

The Steven Gerrard comparisons are obvious, but what’s a realistic ceiling for the Hungarian? 👀

He has been arguably our most important player this season, but if Szoboszlai is to ever come close to justifying the comparisons between him and Gerrard, he can’t afford to settle for ‘better’. He must keep striving for ‘best’.
