Amad has taken to social media to send what could be seen as a hint over his Manchester United future, following the weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. After starting every league game under interim boss Michael Carrick so far, Amad was dropped to the bench for Sunday’s match.

Striker Benjamin Sesko was his replacement in the starting line-up. The Slovenian scored what turned out to be the winning goal for the second game in a row as United came out as 2-1 winners.

Seemingly in response to the decision, Amad has posted a picture of him celebrating in a United shirt on his Snapchat account, along with a caption that translates to: “What is meant to grow does not stay in the same place forever.”

The caption could hint that he is thinking about his future, although that may not be an immediate thing. It could also be referencing personal development and serving as a motivational quote to try and earn his place back in the starting XI.

However, the timing of the message, coming just after he had been dropped to the bench, could raise some concerns over his feelings about the decision.

Amad has been a regular in United’s starting line-up so far this season. In his 23 appearances in all competitions, he has scored twice and provided a further three assists.

His last goal involvement came when he scored in the 4-4 draw against Bournemouth back in December. That game came just before he joined up with the Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations, which saw him miss five Premier League matches.

Carrick’s decision to replace Amad with Sesko against Palace came after calls to do so from pundits, including United legend Gary Neville. “I think now on Sunday Michael Carrick starts him (Sesko),” he told Sky Sports after United’s win over Everton.

“Just feeling how Michael would look at that, I think it would kill the lad if he didn’t start. I think what you’ll see on Sunday is Cunha to the left, Mbeumo to the right, Sesko up top and Bruno in behind. I think Amad will just slip out for a game, he has been really good but I think Sesko starts.”

Amad will be hoping to make an impression, whether that’s in the starting XI, or from the bench, when United return to action on Wednesday night.

Carrick’s side travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United (8:15pm kick-off). They then return to Old Trafford next weekend when they host Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon (2pm).
