With the excitement around Motherwell moving up the standings now I thought I'd share this quick compilation of clips (2 from the game vs Dundee Utd, and a couple more from past games that I remember being really impressive).
There's a lot of talk about clean sheets, possession, building out from the back, Maswanhise goals etc. but to me the most beautiful thing to watch has been how in sync the players often are about who is meant to be where. And also the way they move to form shapes around the pitch to often outnumber the opposition (instead of just rigidly sticking to fixed positions expecting individual players to figure it out).
Of course it's not just me, you can see how people cheer even if it's just getting out of a press. The reason Jens' system is so good is because the requirements to pull it off individually are not too high. You don't need super athletes, physical giants, or technically gifted prodigies in specific positions. It's mostly fundamental passes and running with effort. Mistakes do happen but as the season stats show, best defence in the league.
