Brentford managed to beat Burnley 4-3 despite a remarkable Clarets comeback and disallowed goals late on in the second half.
The full-time whistle in one of the games of the season was met with boos from the home fans, they, and the players in disbelief.
It was one of the games of the Premier League season at Turf Moor, here’s how it unfolded (as per Sky Sports)…

Maz Farookhi (Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live): “Scott Parker cannot quite believe what has happened this afternoon. There was Burnley fans leaving this match 34 minutes into the game and I hope they found their way back into Turf Moor…
Ashley Williams (BBC Radio 5 Live) on Burnley’s disallowed last minute goal: “Not for me, not at all. I think it has hit him on the hip. Even if it has touched his arm, I don’t think it is clear.
“I don’t know how they disallowed that goal. It should stand. Scott Parker and Burnley will feel hard done by.
“If they win that game, they have a chance of staying up, but now that has probably relegated them on a decision which is not clear.
“I can see why they feel so aggrieved by that.”
Sky Sports’ Ron Walker: “That is absolutely prime Barclays. It had everything. Seven goals, two more ruled out, a three-goal comeback and a late winner.
“Smiles stretching all the way back to London from the Brentford players.
“Get that Antonio Conte meme overlayed on Keith Andrews’ post-match interview.
“That’s very harsh and won’t do anything to avert the growing swell of frustration against VAR in recent weeks.”
Kris Boyd on Soccer Saturday:
“It might have hit his hand… There is one angle that shows it his arm and one angle that shows it him in the midriff.
“There is nothing conclusive, this goal should be given…”
Here’s the social media reaction after Brentford beat Burnley 4-3 despite remarkable Clarets comeback and disallowed goals…
@claret_jack: That sums up the season. 35 minutes of looking inept and out of our depth, followed by fight and showing what we can do, only to be undone by comical VAR decisions. I’ll be glad to get relegated out of this awful, awful league #twitterclarets #BURBRE #brentford
@Dazmac1882: We can argue all day about decisions, but to be 3-0 down in the 1st half at home is unforgivable and should carry some sort of custodial sentence #twitterclarets
@LeeCologne: Clear and obvious…takes FIVE MINUTES to disallow a goal. That is not clear and obvious #var #twitterclarets #utc
@ParkersCardigan: The most absolutely honking VAR decisions I’ve seen in my life. Only paralleled by Parker’s set up of five at the back in a must win game at home. Get him gone #twitterclarets
@RickLaycock (Replying to @premierleague: You’ve just taken away one of the best comebacks, because of this…absolutely ruining your product. And absolutely robbed Burnley. Not once but twice. Please tell me how either were clear and obvious. #twitterclarets
@Gingerclaret: Abysmal first half. Managed to find some fighting spirit from somewhere in the second. Victory stolen from us ultimately by VAR. It’s not fit for purpose-but you can’t give teams a 3 goal start. Hannibal far and away our best player. Confused why he was subbed. #twitterclarets
@Bfchopper: Worse league in the world is the premier league corrupt . Antony arm was offside you can’t be offside with something you can’t score with and if you have to take 5 minutes for an handball then it’s not obvious mistake either handball or not doesn’t take 5 minutes #twitterclarets
@ClaretXtra: Why is this offside? Anthony would not be able to play the ball legally with this part of his body. If you have any doubt, look at our *second* disallowed goal, which was ruled out for maybe touching Barnes’ forearm/midriff. #TwitterClarets
@rushy_sport: Don’t quite know how to sum that up. Disgraceful first half, incredible spirit and charecter to come back and be within a VAR call of winning. Players could have folded but didn’t and even nearly came back at the end again. VAR a joke. Think a lot of the positives today came directly from the players and they almost dragged it back inspite of the manager and the tactics. Would love to know whether Parker or the players spoke at half time in the dressing room. How is it possible that the tip of a shoulder is an advantage there for Anthony. Also, how is it possible that the official PL account is Tweeting this garbage with that shocked emoji. It’s your league sort this nonsense out rather than make a jovial post.
