Bosses of a popular Manchester city centre restaurant have announced its sudden closure in a ‘heartbreaking’ post on social media.
Ramen, cocktails and karaoke bar and restaurant House of Fu has become the latest victim in a string of closures across Greater Manchester, with a post shared on Friday (February 27) announcing its sudden closure from tomorrow Saturday (February 28).
The restaurant, which has another branch in Leeds city centre, shared on Instagram on Friday evening: “Manchester PSA! We’re heartbroken to announce that we’ll be closing House of Fu on Portland Street this Saturday, 28th February and this will be our last weekend serving the good people of Manchester.”

House of Fu, which began as a pop-up in Leeds in 2014, only opened its Manchester branch on Portland Street in 2023.
Their closure announcement continues: “It’s been a wild two and a half years. To say the economic landscape has been challenging would be a bit of an understatement, but sometimes a site just doesn’t click. You live and hopefully learn.

“We want to say a massive thank you to all our staff. They’ve worked incredibly hard to make sure our customers have had amazing experiences since day one and closing is absolutely no reflection on them. We also want to say thanks to you, our patrons, for choosing to spend your time and money with us.”
The restaurant owners went on to thank their landlords who have been ‘incredibly helpful’, and reminded customers to ‘support your local independent hospitality businesses’.
Sad patrons have taken to the comments section to share their ‘heartbreak’ over the news. “Week after week,” one person writes, “losing such great places – so sorry to hear this for all who work there. More needs to be done to safeguard our hospitality sector.”
Another person commented: “Heartbroken. You’re my favourite place”, while someone else added: “This is so sad. Absolutely loved it here.”
