Newcastle United are unlikely to cash in on Malick Thiaw so quickly amid links with Manchester United.
Thiaw has been touted as a potential target for the Red Devils by leading German football reporter Christian Falk.
There’s little doubt that Thiaw has been a brilliant signing for Newcastle United, establishing himself as one of the club’s best players since joining from AC Milan.

Such have been the level of his performances, interest from elsewhere was always likely to emerge. Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph, however, has now shared an update.
Newcastle could value Thiaw at £80m but may not sell to Manchester United
Edwards rated how likely star players were to leave Newcastle United this summer, given there has been so many reports about the likes of Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon.
Thiaw has also been tipped for an exit but, according to Edwards, it is difficult to see how the club cash in so soon after the defender arrived.

Interestingly, when asked for Newcastle’s likely asking price for Thiaw, Edwards wrote: “£80million”.
Edwards said: “The Germany international has been an excellent signing, brought in from AC Milan for just £35m last summer.
“The centre-back has adapted swiftly to the Premier League and has started almost every game this season. His impressive form has swiftly led to rumours he is on the wanted list of United, who need a replacement for Harry Maguire. But it is difficult to see Newcastle considering a sale so soon after he arrived.”
That would represent a huge profit for Newcastle, who paid around £30million to sign Thiaw from AC Milan only a few months ago.
Thiaw’s contract runs until the summer of 2029, so Newcastle are in a strong position.

Newcastle are prepared to build their defence around Thiaw and Sven Botman for years to come, having been so impressed with the German since his arrival.
Following a summer of recruitment that has been heavily criticised, the former Schalke defender has been a rare success story.
To cash in on him any time soon would be gutting. Newcastle struck gold with Thiaw, and there’s every reason to believe he can get better over time.
This summer might see some of Newcastle’s best players leave the club if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Thiaw cannot be one of them.
