Eberechi Eze is two goals away from becoming the highest-scoring Arsenal player in London derbies during a single season since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2018/19.

Over the weekend, Eze’s two goals against Tottenham means that the Arsenal star now has six goals in London derbies this term.

Back in November, the winger netted a memorable hat-trick against the North London club and also against his former side, Crystal Palace.

Now, it is Chelsea up next for the Gunners, and Eze has every chance of surpassing Aubameyang’s tally of seven London derby goals in a single campaign.

Eberechi Eze is two goals from matching Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s London derby record

Eberechi Eze will be looking to match Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s tally of seven goals in London derbies in a single season when Arsenal face Chelsea, Opta data shows.

Five goals against Spurs and one against Palace means that the winger is now just one goal behind the former Gunners star.

The 27-year-old has already broken one London derby record this season, as Eze became the joint highest-scorer in a North London derby during a single campaign since 1935.

Finally, Mikel Arteta now knows how to get the best from Eze, with the Spanish coach claiming the former Palace star was eager to prove him wrong against Spurs.

TRUE or FALSE: Eberechi Eze has just taken Martin Odegaard’s spot at Arsenal… 👀

Eze headed into the North London derby with much to prove after he was left on the bench against Wolves, despite his two assists in the game prior against Wigan.

Surely, Arteta will now keep Eze in the team when Chelsea arrive at the Emirates Stadium on the weekend, and he will have the chance to match Auba’s London derby total.

Paul Merson tells Mikel Arteta to start Eberechi Eze vs Chelsea

Paul Merson has urged Mikel Arteta to start Eze for the clash against Chelsea this weekend.

Speaking to SportsKeeda, Merson said: “Arsenal should go with Eberechi Eze in this game. He scored twice in the derby, so I can’t see it being any other way.

“Barring the Manchester United game, Arsenal are still unbeaten at home. But this is still a tough game for them because they have to come out and win this. They didn’t have to do that in the second leg of the cup game at the Emirates!

“If Leeds beat City, Arsenal have a free hit here. Otherwise, they must not lose. I believe they will just edge Chelsea and secure three points.”

The former Arsenal striker is backing the Gunners to beat the Blues 1-0, and Eze could be the man to make the difference.
