There’s a point to be made about whether the “clear and obvious error” rule comes into play here. VAR is shouting “delay”, but the ref has apparently – in real time – seen the incident and decided himself that it’s just a talking to, nothing more. Is that a “clear and obvious error”? If so, then VAR is entitled to ask the ref to look again. If not, then O’Neill has a point.
FWIW, I agree that it was a red. It was a stupid thing for Trusty to do in that manner, and he’s got no one to blame but himself.
