Martin O’Neill on refereeing: “He’s asked by a very excited man on VAR to ‘delay, delay, delay’. “It’s such a nonsense” “In time we won’t need a referee. VAR will do it all… that’s what they do now.”

He’s not angry at his players violent reaction? He’s not angry at his player unnecessarily giving the referee and var a decision to make? He’s not angry at his player selling the game in a title race?

  2. Did he say Trusty was stupid for doing it at any point?
Happy enough when the wee man shouting delay, delay, delay to give a dodgy penalty for handball in his favour no doubt.

I thought he came out after the match saying player can’t do that in this day and age? Seems odd for him of all people to flip flops on it. But then again, looks like there’s been a clear steer in how the club want to treat this and he is after all Desmond’s man

His idiot defender literally fucking punched the opposition player and all these clowns have moaned about since then is an aspect of the game that is designed to address when referees do not take appropriate action

The irony of Celtic and Rangers fans complaining about referees decisions after all these years is fucking hilarious to fans of every other team in the country hahahaha comedy gold.

I mean the R in VAR stands for “referee” so there would still be a referee Martin.

  7. Where did the relaxed, elder statesman who cheerily laughed and joked with the media just 3 months ago disappear to?

He must be angry because he thinks Trusty should have been sent off without the need for VAR to say so, right?

    Right?

Canny believe this one is the hill we’re dying on fs. It was a red card, we canny be angry just because it was caught. I think VAR needs to be fixed as much as the next guy but this is a decision it got right

  10. There’s a point to be made about whether the “clear and obvious error” rule comes into play here. VAR is shouting “delay”, but the ref has apparently – in real time – seen the incident and decided himself that it’s just a talking to, nothing more. Is that a “clear and obvious error”? If so, then VAR is entitled to ask the ref to look again. If not, then O’Neill has a point.

FWIW, I agree that it was a red. It was a stupid thing for Trusty to do in that manner, and he’s got no one to blame but himself.

  11. “A very excited man”

We all know what he means, we all know what he’s implying and we all know what games on Sunday. I’d have more respect if people didn’t bullshit like this.
