Liverpool and Chelsea are set to be among the teams competing in the Masters Football tournament this spring. The competition will be held at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London, on May 31.

Former star players from Chelsea, Liverpool, Ajax and Real Madrid will battle it out in front of a capacity crowd and a national television audience. The event’s promotional poster has offered a glimpse of who could be lining up for each team.

Premier League title-winner Loic Remy is among those pictured in Chelsea colours, having turned out for the Blues between 2004 and 2017. The Frenchman hung up his boots in 2023 following his release by Brest.

Also featured on the poster is Jermaine Pennant, who is expected to represent Liverpool. The former winger may not have lifted a major trophy at Anfield, but he was part of the Reds’ squad that fell to AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League final.

Ivan Campo, who cemented his status as a Premier League favourite during his stint at Bolton, also appears on the poster. The Spaniard is anticipated to turn out for Real Madrid, the club with whom he claimed the 2000 Champions League title.

Meanwhile, Jari Litmanen, who enjoyed a spell at Liverpool, could find himself facing his former club when he dons an Ajax shirt once more. Previous winners of the competition include Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

Each six-a-side fixture will run for 14 minutes and include rolling substitutions, with numerous high-profile names set to be announced for each team in the coming months. The tournament will follow a round-robin structure, with the top two teams progressing to the final.

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has previously told the event’s official website why it proves so appealing to former players.

He said: “The lads always have a great time with the Masters. The fans always come out in numbers and the matches are as intense as ever!

“You only need to see the quality of the teams nowadays to see how keen the players are to get involved”.

Tickets will be available on presale from 10am on Thursday, February 26. They will then go on general sale 24 hours later.
