The Birds of Poole Harbour are hosting a free birdwatching event at Holes Bay, giving people the opportunity to witness first hand wintering wildlife that thrives in the harbour’s rich wetlands this time of year.

The pop-up event will take place on Monday, March 9, from 8am to 11am.

The Birds of Poole Harbour charity said: “Our team will be based in the northeast corner of Holes Bay by the PC World drain, along the cycle path between the McDonald’s car park and the eastern edge of Upton Country Park.”

They added: “Holes Bay is one of the most important sites in Poole Harbour for overwintering birds with huge flocks of waders and waterfowl spending time here.

“The site supports hundreds of teal, wigeon, shoveler, pintail, avocet, dunlin and sometimes thousands of black-tailed godwits amongst many other species.”

The organisers say the site is popular due to its accessibility and diverse range of bird species.

The pop-up event is free and anyone can attend, however donations are welcomed.

Participants should check social media as the event is subject to change, dependant on weather conditions.
