James Garner has admitted Everton intended to cause “chaos” with their corners against Manchester United after Senne Lammens claimed the tactic was “over the top”. Benjamin Sesko was United’s super-sub for the second match running as the Slovenian scored the only goal of the game midway through the second-half.
But after the game, United goalkeeper Lammens was unimpressed by Everton’s corner routines, which involved them putting as many players as they could around the Belgian and floating the ball into the middle of his box. And when asked about the thinking behind the tactic, Garner revealed: “We were just trying to get in and around [the goalkeeper] and cause as much chaos as possible.”
Monday’s defeat means Everton have now won just four of their 14 Premier League games at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And although Garner has no idea why the Blues continue to struggle at home, he insists his side’s confidence “won’t be knocked” by the latest setback in their quest for European football.
He said: “I wish I knew. I hope we can nip it in the bud as soon as we can. It was maybe just that clinical edge that I think we missed tonight.
“We got into the final third easy enough and we just didn’t create as much as what we’d like. So, I think we’re just missing that final edge and I’m hoping that will add a few more points.

“It happens. It’s football. You’re not going to win every single game. I think every player, every single team, has been there where you don’t win games.
“The best thing is that you’ve always got a game the next week, so you’ve got a chance to put it right.
“The confidence won’t be knocked, but obviously it’s very frustrating to not come away with anything, but like I said, the good thing is that we’ve got next week to put things right.”
