Photos of Albion fans celebrating victories had become like rare, priceless pieces of art before the full time whistle blew on Brentford 0-2 Brighton at the Gtech Stadium.
The Seagulls had recorded just one win in 13 Premier League matches stretching back almost four months to the start of December.
A grim run of form sending Brighton tumbling towards the relegation zone and public criticism of Fabian Hurzeler reaching extreme levels.
Yet just two weeks after the Amex Stadium loudly accused Hurzeler that he did not know what he was doing as the Albion lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace, there was an altogether different atmosphere in West London.
Maybe Hurzeler does know what he is doing? He adopted a new, more direct approach against Brentford. Brighton got the ball from one end of the pitch to the other much quicker than in recent weeks.
Helping mask a severe lack of pace in the oldest starting XI of the season. Which included 40-year-old James Milner making his 654th Premier League appearance to break Gareth Barry’s record for most top flight games since Sky Sports invented football in 1992.
The change in tactics suited the Albion. Diego Gomez put Brighton ahead when firing home a rebound after Ferdi Kadioglu rattled the bar from 30 yards.
Danny Welbeck then doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time. Dat Guy found himself in the right place at the right time to take advantage of a terrible defensive mistake from Nathan Collins.
Quite what Collins was thinking attempting a backheel clearance inside his own six yard box, who knows? Welbeck though was only too happy to pick up the pieces from close range.
And that was how it finished. Brentford offered nothing much in the second half with Brighton comfortably holding on for three very welcome points and some big celebrations in front of the away end at full time.
It had been a while.
