Speaking exclusively to MrQ ahead of this summer’s World Cup, Teddy Sheringham admitted that Harry Kane is the only striker worth taking to America in June.
He said: “There’s no one other than Harry Kane, really. No one has really been chomping at the bit. There aren’t any new names that haven’t already had a chance yet.”
Similar comments from his former Spurs strike partner, Les Ferdinand, which were recently documented in The Independent amongst other publications, described England’s ‘lack of number nines’ as a ‘worrying situation’, as the former Three Lions also namedropped Teddy Sheringham as one of many quality forward options at England’s disposal in the 90s, now not available to the men’s international team.
Teddy Sheringham shared the sentiment that England were simply better up front in his heyday.
He said: “In my time, there were five or six options up front for England, and then another two more players on top of that who were pushing on the edges to get in the squads. But things have changed now, with the number of foreign strikers who are playing in the Premier League.”
