Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa are all being presented in Portugal as realistic destinations for Geny Catamo this summer, as the Sporting CP winger’s red-hot form fuels fresh transfer talk.
Correio da Manhã report that the Mozambique international is “unstoppable at all levels” this season and increasingly viewed as the prime candidate to leave Alvalade for a significant fee in the next window.
The 25-year-old has seven goals in 29 appearances for Sporting so far. That already matches his entire tally from last season. In addition, he has four assists – one more than he managed across 48 matches in 2024/25.
Those numbers explain why English interest is intensifying.
Numbers driving Premier League interest in Geny Catamo
Geny Catamo’s performances have gone beyond raw statistics. The Portuguese outlet describe him as Sporting’s most in-form player, highlighting his pace, sharp diagonal runs and powerful finishing.
Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, he has hit the ground running. He scored twice shortly after his comeback and has continued to deliver decisive moments, including a crucial extra-time goal in the Taça de Portugal.
Operating predominantly from the right flank, he has become a focal point of Sporting’s attack. Opponents now assign double marking to contain him. Even so, his influence has grown rather than faded.
That context matters for Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa. All three are named alongside Lyon as clubs queuing for the winger. The report states that the “harassment promises to increase” as the summer approaches.
Release clause set – but negotiations open

Despite recently renewing until 2029 and nearly doubling his salary to €700,000 net per year (£600,000), Catamo’s release clause remains €60m (£51m).
Crucially, Correio da Manhã claim that both player and club are open to negotiations. That suggests a deal below the full clause is possible if the right offer arrives.
For Aston Villa, who have monitored him previously, the situation is now clearer. Everton and Fulham are explicitly in the frame, creating domestic competition. Meanwhile, Lyon add continental pressure.
What this means for the Premier League trio
Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa are now looking at a winger whose output has already matched last season’s totals in significantly fewer games. His trajectory is upward, and Sporting’s openness to negotiations changes the tone of the market.
The €60m (£51m) clause sets the formal benchmark. However, with both club and player reportedly available to discuss terms, the real conversation may unfold below that figure – at least initially.
What complicates matters is competition. Three Premier League sides are now explicitly linked. Lyon add continental weight. If Catamo’s numbers continue to rise, so will the pressure. The market around him is forming.
