And it resulted in a goal which sent them into the quarter-finals of the Adobe FA Cup.

Kiko Seike took her tally for the season to seven in all competitions as she rounded off a brilliant move at West Ham.

The goal proved to be the winner in a 2-1 success which turned out to secure a trip to Arsenal in the last eight as Albion’s women suffered some of the luck of the draw the men have been experiencing this season.

Right-winger Seike was waiting for her moment to dart infield as a sparkling move developed, with big roles by Manuela Vanegas and Madison Haley.

Fran Kirby, who had scored the first goal, supplied the expertly angled pass inside the full-back and Seike tucked home a neat finish between the near post and the keeper.

Speaking to The Argus recently, interim head coach Chris Roberts said: “Where we would like to continually work with Kiko is those kinds of runs that you’ve seen.

“Run from out to in, attacking more in central areas starting from a wide position and you’ve seen that with the goal (against London City).

“When she’s in those areas, from a finishing perspective, she is usually very good, very clinical.

“We just want to get her into those areas a bit more often, even though she’s out on the wing.”

Seike’s finish at West Ham was similar to one she attempted later in that game against London City but instead guided just the wrong side of the post.

While a hugely exciting player with decent end product, it still feels like she could have more goals or make the right decision more often.

But there is no doubt the former Urawa flyer has been a big success ever since arriving ahead of last season, fresh from the 2024 Olympics, and scoring a superb hat-trick against Everton on her debut.

Roberts said: “Kiko hit the ground running, didn’t she, in her first game?

“She is very consistent. She loves to play in behind. She loves to go one-versus-one.

“She has got a real eye for goal, a good finisher. She presses. She has really been a top, top player for us.”

Manchester United lost to Chelsea in the last 16 and the quarter-final draw duly kept the three remaining members of the WSL big four apart.

Albion lost 1-0 away to Arsenal in the league this season and, while the home side could have scored a few more that day, they were also grateful for a stunning save by Daphne van Domselaar to tip away a Carla Camacho header.

Chelsea are at home to Spursin the quarter-finals and Manchester City visit Amy Merricks’ Birmingham City from the second tier.

WSL2 leaders Charlton may well fancy their chances at home to top-flight strugglers Liverpool.

Ties will be played on Sunday, April 5.

Albion are currently in another of the intermittent halts to their season.

They are next in action on Wednesday, March 18, when they visit Chelsea.

The next home game is against Liverpool at the Broadfield Stadium on Sunday, March 22,
