Crystal Palace fans have held up a banner claiming that Oliver Glasner is “finished” as doubt persists over whether he’ll remain in charge at Selhurst Park until the summer – despite a pressure relieving win over Wolves.

The Austrian has already confirmed he will be leaving once this season, and his contract, comes to an end. The Eagles have endured a difficult few months, which came after a blistering start to the campaign, and anger towards Glasner has mounted.

Palace have tumbled down the table, their FA Cup defence was ended by non-league Macclesfield and, after the 1-1 draw with Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar on Thursday, sections of the away support called for Glasner to be axed.

The former Frankfurt boss has copped criticism for some of his comments about the club and their stature, which has seen a banner unveiled during Sunday’s clash with Wolves that read: “Opportunities missed – board inept. Fans disrespected – Glasner finished”.

Evann Guessand scored a stoppage time winner, creating more headroom between Palace at the bottom three, but earlier this week Glasner claimed supporters should “never forget where they came from” as he said: “They can say and sing whatever they want. I know what I am doing.

“I would say the most important thing is stay humble. I think it’s the same for the fans. Stay humble. Never forget where you’re coming from. I think a few who are so critical in this situation are not humble any more. Forget where you are coming from and usually in life you are punished for this.”

Glasner’s frustration began back in the summer when, after delivering the FA Cup, he saw Eberechi Eze sold and then all but demanded they keep hold of Marc Guehi. The club later sold their captain in January and Glasner has said their poor form is, in part, down to the players they’ve lost.

He said, off the back of one win in 11 league games: “I’m always realistic, and we’re not in the best moment right now. I understand and I take responsibility for everything because I’m responsible for the whole team.

“Right now, I’m just not good enough to replace the players we sold. I’m just not good enough to integrate the new players in a way to play the same way like we did, and I’m not good enough that we can cope with the schedule we had. On the other side, I was good enough to play the best season ever [and] win two trophies.”
