Jamie Carragher has suggested that Dominik Szoboszlai is effectively Liverpool’s best option in two positions that regularly trouble opponents. On Sunday, the Hungarian filled in at right‑back against Nottingham Forest, having already done so several times this season, including against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Arne Slot, still dealing with Jeremie Frimpong’s absence, has been left short of options at right‑back. The situation worsened when Wataru Endo picked up a recent foot injury.
Only Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez remain realistic choices for Slot in the role, with Calvin Ramsay ruled out of stepping up by the Dutch boss.

Szoboszlai got the nod ahead of Gomez in Liverpool’s dramatic 1-0 win over Forest – a decision that Carragher completely agreed with.
“Liverpool have had real right-back problems,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “Endo was there against Sunderland, three players are now injured there and Gomez is not fully fit.

“If everyone was fully fit, Szoboszlai would still be Liverpool’s best right-back. He’d be Liverpool’s best midfielder too. That’s the problem for them too.
“The midfield area, the quality that Forest have got in [Elliot] Anderson and [Morgan] Gibbs-White, that will be the key area today.
“[Ryan] Gravenberch, [Alexis] Mac Allister and [Florian] Wirtz, the Forest midfield can go up against them and cause them problems.”
Asked whether Szoboszlai was also Liverpool’s best midfield player, Carragher replied: “Yeah, he is this season. And that’s the problem for him really.”
Liverpool left the City Ground with a 1-0 win, with Alexis Mac Allister having two goals initially ruled out before his stoppage‑time strike was eventually allowed to stand.
The Reds are back in top flight action on Saturday when they host relegation battlers West Ham United, with Slot’s men looking to return to the Champions League places.
