It was another terrific week for Fabio Vieira, who scored a second-half equaliser for Hamburg in their 1-1 draw against Mainz in the Bundesliga on Tuesday. The Portuguese midfielder is shining during his loan in Germany of late, with HSV now unbeaten in six and 11th in the table.

Ethan Nwaneri scooped another appearance for Marseille over the weekend, coming on for the final 20 minutes of Friday night’s 2-0 defeat at Brest in Ligue 1. OM are currently fourth in the French top flight, having recently undergone a managerial change.

There were no FA Cup slip-ups for Reiss Nelson and Brentford last Monday, as he started and played 61 minutes of a 1-0 fourth round win at this year’s history-makers Macclesfield. Reiss was then on the bench during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Brighton in the Premier League.

It’s a frustrating period in a superb season right now for Jakub Kiwior, who spent another game on the sidelines recovering from a hamstring injury as his Porto side overcame Rio Ave 1-0 at the Estadio do Dragao on Sunday. Jakub will be desperate to return to the heart of one of Europe’s sternest defences, Porto leading Liga Portugal by a four-point margin having won 20 of their 23 league matches, conceding only seven goals.

It’s now 13 winless games for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, after they were beaten 2-1 by St Pauli on Saturday to fall to 17th with Karl Hein watching on from the bench. The Estonia No. 1 awaits an opportunity to return between the sticks for Bremen, who have been dragged into a concerning survival battle.

Neither Ismeal Kabia nor Louie Copley featured for their respective loan clubs Shrewsbury Town and Crawley Town over the weekend in League Two. Shrewsbury secured their fourth-straight win on Saturday, a 2-0 success over Accrington Stanley, now 18th in the table. Crawley’s 1-1 home draw with Chesterfield leaves them five without victory and in 21st place.

Charles Sagoe Jr still awaits his debut for Swedish side Kalmar, who were beaten 2-0 by Mjallby in the Svenska Cupen this week. Charles’ recently-agreed loan deal runs until next January, due to the summer schedule of the Allsvenskan league campaign. Will Sweet made another appearance for Dagenham & Redbridge in the National League South, coming off the bench late on in a 2-0 loss at Maidenhead United.

Moving across to our Women’s loanees, Rosa Kafaji enjoyed a successful day in the FA Cup on Sunday, as her Brighton & Hove Albion side emerged 2-1 winners at West Ham United to reach the quarter-finals. Rosa entered the fray on the hour mark to help see out the victory, securing a place in the last eight for the Seagulls.

Jessie Gale – who is having a tremendous season – was unable to feature for Bristol City over the weekend due to their own FA Cup clash with parent club Arsenal. Renée Slegers’ side were of course 3-0 winners of that tie at Meadow Park. Laila Harbert wasn’t involved in Everton’s 2-1 defeat away to Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Jenna Nighswonger’s Aston Villa were not in action over the weekend, while Madison Earl was not involved for Glasgow City in their 4-0 win away to Motherwell in the SWPL 1.

Cecily Wellesley-Smith could be in contention for new Swedish club FC Rosengard in their Svenska Cupen match against Hammarby on Monday. Vivienne Lia awaits her own debut for Hammarby having joined the Swedes on loan, and their victory last time out on penalties against Sporting of Portugal has now set up a Europa Cup semi-final tie with Sparta Prague next month.
