Albion used Jack Hinshelwood further forward than usual and paired the experienced Pascal Gross and James Milner in the engine room in what might be termed as Plan Bee at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Asked about Hinshelwood, head coach Hurzeler told The Argus: “It was a different role for him because we wanted to have like special positioning and his profile was perfect for these kinds of positions.
“He did a good game, not only offensively also defensively.
“He’s reliable, he runs a lot and he was there for the team.”
In terms of Gross and Milner adding midfield know-how, he said: “I think Brentford away, you need players who are reliable in in every second of the game.

“There’s a throw-in, there’s a corner and they are quite good in these kinds of things so really players who are able to defend these moments.
“And, on top of that, they know, they understand the football game.
“They have so much experience, they have played so many games, so they could immediately transfer the match plan we had on to the pitch and they understood exactly what to do.
“And when we were leading, then I think they have the quality to defend as a team, to put a distance between each other that is quite tight so they have no chance to break us through the middle, through our block.”
