Kobbie Mainoo will have fond memories of facing Everton having made his first Premier League start for Manchester United against the Toffees.

Back in 2023, everything changed for Kobbie Mainoo when he was named in the starting line-up to face Everton at Goodison Park.

As United prepare to face Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time next week, it feels like a perfect time to revisit what was an incredibly important game.

Let’s hear your predictions for Man Utd’s next game vs Everton (A)…

Our recent record vs Everton has been mixed, can Michael Carrick take us to a win?

United beat Everton 3-0 on the day, and Mainoo’s performance went slightly under the radar because of Alejandro Garnacho’s opener, but it ended up laying the foundation for his United career.

Alejandro Garnacho scored a stunning overhead kick which has since been voted United’s best ever goal of the season contender.

Garnacho’s goal was award-worthy, but what followed in his United career means that he has quickly been forgotten by the fanbase.

Garnacho made an irreversible mistake when he burned bridges at United and left for Chelsea. In contrast, Kobbie Mainoo has survived being outcast by Ruben Amorim and is now back in the starting XI under Michael Carrick as a key player.

What are your memories from this horrific 4-0 defeat to Everton?

As per 90Min, Mainoo’s debut performance against Everton was “industrious” and “superb”, and he actually ended up with a higher match rating than Garnacho despite his overhead kick.

When looking back on that brilliant win over Everton, in time hopefully it is remembered for Mainoo’s first start just as much as it is for Garnacho’s wonder goal.

Kobbie Mainoo’s promising record vs Everton

Mainoo’s first full start in the Premier League came against the Toffees in 2023, and ever since he has always enjoyed playing the Merseyside club.

In four appearances against Everton, Mainoo has been on the winning side three times. The only defeat came this season when United lost 1-0 to Everton despite the Toffees going down to 10 men.

But Mainoo was only brought into that game by Amorim as a second-half substitute. Impressively, he boasts a 100% winning record as a starter against Everton.

To add to that record, United have kept a clean sheet in all three of the wins against Everton that Mainoo has started in, with an overall goal record of 9-0 in those matches.

If United weren’t confident enough already for their trip to face Everton, Mainoo’s record should inspire some positivity about picking up three points.
