Despite Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to fifth-placed Millwall, the Reds remain in the Championship play-off places with 15 games to go.

The quest to secure a top-six finish is put on hold tonight when Wrexham face second-tier rivals Ipswich at The Racecourse in the fourth round of the cup and Parkinson insists his side will be giving it their best shot to progress despite the league being the priority.

“It is a distraction but I think it’s a welcome one,” said the Reds’ boss.

“We speak about the magic of the FA Cup so when the games come, I want us to enjoy it.

“I want us to just go out there with a real positivity about our performance.

“Of course, we know what Ipswich are all about. We’ve come up against them before.

“But it’s about bringing us an energy and an intensity to the night, and we’ll see if that’s good enough.

“We’d love to come into it on the back of a win, but we did have two victories prior to that at Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers so we’re still in good form.

“This is a switch off from the league and enjoy the FA Cup.”

Wrexham won 4-3 on penalties against Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest in the third round after drawing 3-3.

The Reds, who led 2-0 and 3-1 before being pegged back, rose to the occasion and Parkinson is looking forward to another match under the lights at The Racecourse.

“The night games, whatever division we’ve been in and whatever competition we’ve been in, are always special here,” he added.

“There’s always that extra atmosphere in the ground. You can feel it and the lads really enjoy the evening games.”
