A formal ASB review covering the length of Charminster High Street and the nearby cemetery area is taking place.

The review was launched after a rise in reports during 2025 linked to the late-night economy and other disorder-related issues.

Dorset Police and BCP Council are working in partnership to introduce measures aimed at reducing crime and disruption.

Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) officers have been carrying out high-visibility patrols to reassure the public and deter offending.

Over the past three months, officers say they have completed 98 foot patrols in the area, each lasting an average of 50 minutes.

Inspector Scott Janes, of the Bournemouth North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We understand the impact anti-social behaviour (ASB) has on communities and we have been committed to working with our partners to tackling the issue and reducing incidents in the Charminster area.”

“Through the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, we will see additional resources added to the NPT to build further on this work.”

Dorset Police have said they continue to work with partners including the local authority with their CSAS (Community Safety Accreditation Scheme) officers providing a welcome additional presence in the area.

The force has confirmed that further work with the council has seen partners look at design and environmental factors in the area, providing solutions that can help to reduce crime.

Inspector Scott Janes added: “Other proactive work has involved the police cadets, who have been involved in a litter pick in the area, while local officers also hold regular community contact points in Charminster Road.

“We have also progressed investigations to ensure those who are responsible for causing issues in the area are identified and brought to justice.

“This includes work around repeat acquisitive offenders who are targeting local businesses.”

Dorset Police are urging residents of Charminster to report ASB incidents and play an “important role” stopping ASB in its tracks.

Cllr Kieron Wilson from BCP Council said their priority is to make the “area safer and more reassuring for the community”.

Cllr Kieron Wilson, BCP Council portfolio holder for housing and regulatory services, said: “We’re taking clear, coordinated action with Dorset Police to respond to the concerns raised by residents in Charminster.

“This includes targeted patrols, problem‑solving at key hot spots, environmental improvements, and stronger PSPO enforcement where it’s needed. Alongside this we will be providing better support for victims and working closer with local businesses.

“We’ll continue to share updates as this joint work progresses.”
