John Terry has not been mentioned in the race of becoming the next Leicester manager. He is a type of person that could be the perfect fit. He was at Leicester with Dean Smith, in an assistant role. They came close to bring Leicester to safety, but it ended in relegation.

John Terry has a desire to become a first team manager, but has not landed such a job in the past. He has worked as an assistant at Leicester and Aston Villa, both times under Dean Smith as manager.

This might be a bold move, because of his lack of experience in such a job. It might also be a huge risk to appoint someone not having a mangerial background of fighting relegation. So a wildcard really, but in no way far from what is needed.

Michael O’Neill has taken over at Blackburn, being their firefighter out the season. He got a fantastic start with that 3-1 away win vs. QPR at Loftus Road. The fact that Blackburn appointet O’Neill makes it possible for Leicester to bring in Gary Rowett. Rowett was mentioned as a potential candidate at Blackburn earlier before the appointment of O’Neill was made.

We have earlier described the former Oxford, Millwall, Derby and Stoke manager as an ideal man to bring in, as his past is relevant for the job needed at Leicester. He is in the running. Sean Dyche looks unlikely at this point. Dyche are on a different shelf and will not see himself doing a firefighter relegation battle job in The Cahmpionship.

The former Wolfsburg and Southampton manager, Ralph Hassenhutl is the bookies favourite candidate. Russell Martin is still in the running as his name pops up from time to time, but appointing him would not be in any way popular amongst Leicester fans. Every other name is believed to be acceptable, but if Leicester decide to appoint Russell Martin, he will have a major mountain to climb.

We are uncertain on the recent run and believe the best candidates for this job has to be one coming up with a special run in the lower leagues, but seldom or never will a manager in a promotion battle jump ship at this point. This would rule out Michael Skubala, currently in that position with Lincoln.

The name of Dean Smith has also been talked up, for him to return and have a go. This looks far from realistic as his team Charlotte FC are in the frame of starting their new MLS season late February.

To throw John Terry into this bag of candidates might be bold and a bit far out, but this could be his chance to show everyone that he can pull teams out of problems. Another name to talk up is of course Roy Keane, but possibly too much old school to be able to get this group of fragile players into the correct frame and instead scare them to death. Steven Gerrard is a candidate of potential, but his past does not apply when talking about firefighting. He would be an appointment welcomed. He could be a long term appointment. Leicester have in the past had a number of managers with Liverpool connections. Previous Leicester managers Tom Bromilow and Gordon Milne both had fantastic careers as players for The Reds.

What is needed at this point is clearity, defensive structure and a potential possibility to avoid the drop.

We throw the names Roy Keane and John Terry into the race, but believe the list below is the one to recognize and hopefully soon it will be a new man in this manager seat either on a permanent deal or in an interim job out the season.

We have taken the list down to three people and believe an appointment will happen soon. These three candidates are all available and can take over instantly.

Ralph Hassenhutl

Steven Gerrard

Gary Rowett
