Tucked away on Wimborne Road, this Alpine-esque tap house has become a social hub for locals all thanks to its landlord and lady Tom Perry, 41, and Reem Mohsen, 40.

The pair, whose friendship spans nearly 20 years, journeyed from Micro Moose regulars to running the place, taking on the pub in December 2022.

They have succeeded in their mission of building the ideal local haunt, with its funky craft beer and quirky social groups.

Tom said: “The community feel is what I think drew us to the Micro Moose, it’s different to the other sorts of pubs out there.

“We’re passionate about running a pub, but we didn’t want your Green King or Marston’s, we wanted to go down the independent route.”

The pub has become renowned for its multitude of clubs, which include a book, film, and even a music club.

Tom and Reem have also taken a democratic approach to the pub’s Monday quiz night, where the punters themselves take it turns to be the quizmaster.

Every third Saturday of the month, the Moose also offers an opportunity to listen to some local legends, on February 21 you can listen to Romsey’s Ribble, a fun folk duo, and in March it plays host to south coast super star Chris Payne.

Landlord Tom prides himself on being a craft cider enthusiast, or as he describes himself ‘he’s just not the Strongbow type.’

Both himself and Reem have ensured a rotating craft selection which focuses on local and independent breweries.

Tom said: “We try and get our beers and ales as local as possible.”

Their pumps feature award winning ales from Eight Arch, which has won Campaign for Real Ale’s Tap of the Year Award.

He added: “Selection changes generally around every two days, but sometimes you can put something on a 4pm and it will be gone by eight o’clock.

“Some people will come in and say, ‘have you got the stout from the other day’ and I would say ‘that’s long gone, but try this instead’.”

Other highlights include Electric Bear, Downton, West Southbourne and one of Tom’s top picks, Stonehenge Brewery’s ‘Sign of Spring’ , a bright green bitter, which is always a favourite of Micro Moose’s regulars.

Micro Moose is set to celebrate its tenth anniversary in September this year.

Its opening hours are 4pm till 11pm Monday to Friday, then 2pm till 11pm on a Saturday.
