Winton Health Centre, located in Alma Road, stopped running patient clinics in 2023, but has since received significant funding from the NHS to reopen with a range of updated healthcare services.

The refurbished centre will house six consulting rooms and a range of community services.

Dorset HealthCare, NHS Dorset, and the Banks and Bearwood Medical Practice are leading the project, which is set to begin construction this month and expected to completed by summer 2026.

Once finished, Banks and Bearwood Medical Practice, currently based on Wimborne Road, will relocate to the site, which will be renamed the Winton Neighbourhood Health Centre.

Dr.Yasser Kerim, GP partner at Banks and Bearwood, said: “This is an exciting development for the Winton community.

“The new health centre will provide modern, high-quality facilities that will allow patients to access a wide range of services close to home.

“We’ll also be able to provide more appointments, meaning people can be seen more quickly.”

The services available at the new Winton Neighbourhood Health Centre will include paediatrics, child speech and language therapy, podiatry, leg ulcer clinics, community oncology, heart failure clinics, health visitors, school and district nursing, and mental health talking therapies.

Beyond GP services, Dorset HealthCare says it will deliver a comprehensive suite of community-based care from the new centre.

Rachel Small, chief operating officer for Dorset HealthCare, said: “Our aim is to make healthcare more accessible for local people, bring together lots of services on one site, and this investment in Winton is a great example of that commitment in action.”

The site is well positioned to serve the local community and will offer both parking and excellent public transport links.

Part of the NHS’s strategy to deliver high-quality care, the plan behind this rebuild is to bring services closer to people’s homes by expanding community provision.
