I’ve never been Jones biggest fan over the past few seasons (not to say I don’t rate him, but there are aspects of his game that could improve), but the fact he can’t get a start when he’s having one of his better seasons and has shown can play at RB, is definitely worrying (and pretty much confirms he’s fallen out with Slot).

I am not even a big Jones fan, but fuck me was him starting seemed like an obvious lock. I imagined even Chiesa in as well. Macca and Gakpo should be benched for those two with fresh legs.

I think this thing with Jones is a broader situation than just Slot doesn’t fancy him or he and Slot had a falling out. I think Slot is in lockstep with an FSG that’s never really seemed to value Jones as much more than a squad player who’s “happy to be there,” because he’s a kid from Liverpool. They don’t see him as the CM Mac Allister and Gravenberch are, they don’t see him as the AM/mezzala Szobo is. I disagree with that sentiment, but I highly doubt they’re looking to put him on or near their wage level. Unfortunately feels more and more likely he’s leaving this summer
