Nottingham Forest made bids for a number of players during the January transfer window.
Sean Dyche added Stefan Ortega, Luca Netz, and Lorenzo Lucca to the squad to enhance the chances of survival this season, but Evangelos Marinakis wanted more.
Arne Engels was linked with Forest from Celtic. Martin O’Neill, however, stood firm on his midfielder, suggesting he’d only want the Hoops to sell him for around £100 million!

Hayden Hackney was another player wanted by Forest, but with Middlesbrough currently top of the Championship, the academy graduate is clearly keen to see the job through at the Riverside Stadium.
Now, with the dust settling on the transfer window and the football taking centre-stage once again, news of another failed transfer has come to light from one of the top transfer journalists.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Forest made a move to try and sign Bologna left-back Juan Miranda with just hours remaining of the transfer window.
Miranda was one of a number of players Forest looked at in Italy, but a move to Miranda proved a bit of a non-starter, with Bologna holding little desire to let him leave mid-season.
The 26-year-old has been a regular in the Bologna team this season domestically and in the Europa League and the former Barcelona and Real Betis man was in the sights of Forest.
One journalist said on the Fabrizio Romano podcast: “I want to highlight an offer that came in during the winter transfer window.
“A Premier League club that had been trying to scout for certain full-backs in Italy, in Serie A, such as Napoli’s Mathias Oliveira, contacted Bologna for Juan Miranda, and we’re talking about Nottingham Forest.
“Nottingham Forest made an offer during the last winter transfer window for Juan Miranda, but Bologna said no. The player preferred to give Bologna top priority, so this is the story surrounding the Spanish full-back.”
Miranda would have made strong backup for Neco Williams
Clearly, Miranda is the sort of left-back that likes to get forward and aid attacking moves, with the player actually completing more crosses per game than Omari Hutchinson, according to WhoScored.
At 26, the player would have been a nice age for the Forest squad, and it’s a real shame that the club couldn’t get their ducks in a row sooner to get this deal completed.

If Forest have a desire to reignite this interest in the summer, Premier League football will need to be maintained first, and Miranda will perhaps become a viable option then.
Netz does feel like a strong signing too, and perhaps he can act as a solid understudy to Williams as this season reaches the business stages.
With Miranda, an exceptional performer with Serie A and La Liga experience, Forest could now be left wondering what might have been had they managed to do a deal for the Spaniard.
