Redroofs, a privately owned day nursery in Sholing, achieved a strong standard in behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines while meeting the expected standard in all other areas.

Inspectors said the nursery, which can accommodate 65 children aged from three months to five years, is particularly exemplary in the area of behaviour and attitudes.

The report said: “Children’s behaviour and attitudes are a significant strength of the nursery.

“Joint development of the nursery’s rules by children, leaders and staff leads to highly effective and consistent implementation.

“Staff model positive behaviour well as they demonstrate kindness, cooperation and help children to develop these skills themselves.”

“A respectful and harmonious culture is evident, where children behave very well, show kindness to one another, and remain well engaged in learning.”

“Leaders place strong importance on connecting children’s learning between home, nursery and the wider community, working collaboratively with parents to support attendance and shared experiences.

“Praise, encouragement and established behaviour systems further contribute to the nursery’s warm and inclusive environment.”

The report also noted how the nursery was committed to inclusivity and ensuring all children progress in their learning.

Inspectors said: “Children are happy and well settled in this nurturing home-from-home nursery.

“The attachments between children and their key people help them feel safe and secure.

“Staff build positive partnerships with parents, offering guidance as children settle in.

“Newer children stay close to their key person and receive reassurance when needed, helping them settle quickly.”

The report noted the wide range of play opportunities for children and the wide range of play and learning spaces, such as creative rooms, physical development areas and outdoor spaces.

Sue Owen, manager at Redroofs Nursery, said: “I am immensely proud of my team of staff and thrilled with our report.

“My favourite aspect of the inspection is the section on ‘what it’s like to be a child at this setting’.

“I believe it truly encapsulates our nursery ethos to create a family atmosphere and reflects our commitment to ensuring that our children are nurtured and feel safe, happy and loved.”
