A far cry to last season where it felt a red card was around the corner

Wow interesting, but tbh thinking about it this season it does feel a big improvement on past seasons

I think its interesting but doesn’t say a lot. Chelsea are where they are due to the type of tackles not the volune. If anything we are getting yellows for really soft things quite often so could be lower arguably

We have the ball a lot so we hardly out here making silly tackles.

People like to use this to show that we are refereed with more leniency than others, but we also have one of the higher fouls per card against, i.e. our opponents also get carded less frequently than other team’s opponents.
Basically our matches are typically played at a relatively low temperature that doesn’t warrant lots of cards.

Two things spring to mind. We rarely have to make a last ditch tackle which if miss-timed usually means a booking, and most of our fouls a little ones trying to win the ball back high up the pitch which doesn’t usually mean a card.

We invested in high volume duel winners that are strong in the tackle.
Not surprised, we don’t have any consistently fouly types except maybe Zubi.

Teams towards the bottom mostly make accidental fouls while teams at the top mostly make intentionally dangerous challenges it’s as simple as that.

Zubi has been a great addition for us. He could have quite a few more yellows

Historically I’m pretty sure we’ve always been at the other end of this. Not sure what changes this season.

This is useless though as each foul counts the same when they are all different. Though it is true we are a lot more disciplined now and have learned from silly cards costing us points

The red mafia, Man United, us and Forest. We own the refs, don’t you know!

Perhaps the conclusion we should be drawing is that Arsenal fouls are less serious in nature and don’t require cards as often. The fact so many clubs are using this of evidence of referee bias ignores the fact that a lot of the teams at the top of the list are basically doing kung fu moves on their opposition half the time.

It was funny seeing this going around rival subs, spurs fans think refs are in our pocket, not like they have bunch of brain dead defenders or anything…

Remember when everyone blamed Arteta for our cards last year? I guess they all need to give him all the credit for this.

It would be interesting to see card per delayed throwins from previous seasons.

we’ve hardly given the refs a sniff this season

One thing I notice is that we do make a lot of semi professional fouls all the time. Usually at opposition half to break their attack early. These fouls don’t often result in a card. Quite smart tactics.

Almost all of our fouls are the sorts of soft, slight trips or fullbacks knocked over in their own corner types of fouls. It’s not really that big a surprise.

This stat could also be read that refs blow for a foul for the smallest infringements when it’s Arsenal.

Types of fouls. We foul before it becomes a breakaway quite often if ball is lost when structure not in place

One thing I’ve noticed from this season is that our players haven’t been putting themselves in positions where red cards could be a possibility. Rarely any last ditch challenges due to our defensive shape and no one diving in recklessly. The team knows what it needs to do defensively and they all know the margins are fine. This is the maturity that the squad has earned through the adversity of the last 3 races
