Anthony Gordon receives medical treatment against Man City

Newcastle United have been hit by a new injury setback after Anthony Gordon limped off in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City.

The forward went down with what appeared to be a left hamstring pull a few minutes before half-time. After a brief spell of treatment he was replaced by Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle were 3-0 down at the time on the night at the Etihad and 5-0 behind on aggregate. The night went from bad to worse, however, for Eddie Howe with Gordon’s injury.

Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher said: “That is not good – he just said it’s his hamstring to Phil Foden.”

Newcastle were already without midfield trio Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Miley and Joelinton through injury for the game, along with defensive duo Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento.

The transfer window closed on Monday with Newcastle deciding against adding any extra players to their squad.
