Joe Gomez’s Liverpool contract is currently due to expire in 2027, but there has been a suggestion he could depart before then.
Gomez is currently injured, suffering a knock during the defeat to Bournemouth last month.
The versatile defender has had injury issues throughout his entire spell at Anfield, arriving from Charlton Athletic back in 2015.
As a result, it probably wasn’t too surprising to fans when it emerged in January that Gomez could leave Liverpool later in 2026.
David Lynch said: “I think you can make the case to sign a centre half who can play right back because you can 100% guarantee Liverpool are going to need one of those next season because Joe Gomez is very unlikely to be here.”

However, the news emerging about Conor Bradley this week means Gomez may well have to stay at Anfield beyond the summer.
Bradley was ruled out for the season after he picked up an issue late in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal earlier this year.
But now, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, speaking to Anfield Index, there is a chance the full-back does not return to the field until 2027.
He said: “We’re probably looking at something that is going to head into the latter part of the year. If there’s any return in 2026 it would be a massive bonus for Liverpool, but it could quite easily stretch into the early part of 2027.
“You’re always concerned with regards to a non-contact injury, and the tests showed that there was bone damage as well as ligament damage. The mechanism itself suggested that it was a serious ACL problem.”
Where should Calvin Ramsay now rank in Liverpool’s right-back options?

In turn, Liverpool may be left with just one fit right-back for the first half of 2026/27 if Gomez is allowed to depart.
There is still the chance Liverpool go out and sign a right-back in the summer, of course, but we have already seen this winter that FSG prefer to avoid short-term solutions if possible.
So, it may end up being the case that Gomez is kept around until Bradley is fit, then he could leave for a reduced fee in January 2027 or for nothing at the end of his contract.
Givairo Read has been linked as an option, but Fabrizio Romano recently said two clubs are in more advanced talks than the Reds for the young full-back.
