Curtis Jones was the subject of transfer interest during the 2026 January window.

There was ‘definite’ interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the midfielder over the winter.

Arne Slot was also questioned on Jones leaving Liverpool to sign for Inter Milan at the back end of the transfer window.

In the end, the midfielder stayed put, but his long-term future at Anfield remains up in the air.

Jones is now in the final 18 months of his latest Liverpool contract, and the club’s treatment of the player has been questioned.

How much longer should Liverpool persevere with Curtis Jones?

Surely there are better options out there in the market…

Speaking to the Anfield Index podcast, journalist David Lynch made his feelings on the situation clear.

He said Liverpool were in a terrible situation and doesn’t understand why the Reds can’t offer Jones a contract he wants.

Lynch stated: “I just think it’s pretty terrible for Liverpool. He’s your only Scouser in the team now. You’ve developed him since he was seven or eight. Is there really not a world where you can give him a contract he’s happy with?”

“He’s still playing an awful lot of games. He’s genuinely useful. He’s not just filling space.

“It doesn’t feel like he’s got his head on getting a contract signed and staying long-term. Liverpool are probably going to have to make a decision in the next 12 months.”

What is really sad about the situation is that the 25-year-old previously had his heart set on spending his entire career at Anfield.

Speaking in December, 2025, as per Sky Sports, he said: “Well I think that the biggest thing is that I still have to have the humble way about myself and I don’t want to say, ‘Yeah, na, I’m gonna be captain’ or anything like that.

“But I want to be captain of the team. I want to stay here for all my life like the man who I look up to, as everybody knows is Gerrard.”

As things stand, however, Jones will be leaving at the end of June 2027 at the latest.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are trying to sort new contracts for Dominik Szoboszlai and more midfielders.
