Manchester City have a two-goal advantage heading into the second-leg of their EFL Cup semi-final tie with Newcastle United and will be looking to finish the job on Wednesday, writes JOE CITRONE.
Goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki in the first-leg of this game, which ended 2-0 to Manchester City, have put Pep Guardiola’s side firmly in the driving seat heading into the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
That said, Guardiola will be reminding his players that complacency cannot be allowed to creep into their game, and that they must have the right attitude and mentality heading into this game with a trip to Wembley on the line.

Newcastle are heading into this semi-final needing to bounce back from a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool at the weekend, and also with the uphill task of having to overturn a 2-0 goal deficit from the first-leg.
The Toon Army’s chances of retaining the EFL Cup they won last season are not looking good, but they will undoubtedly throw everything and the kitchen sink at Manchester City on Wednesday night in a bid to salvage what has been a disappointing campaign.
I expect Newcastle to have an attacking approach on Wednesday, and therefore it wouldn’t surprise me to see them get on the scoresheet, but I do think the home side will get the better of them again.
