A number of roads are closed and a huge cordon remains in place following what De Montfort University (DMU) has described as a “very serious incident” on its campus in Leicester city centre.

There are long delays on the roads and Leicestershire Police said multiple road closures are expected to remain in place for several hours, causing disruption during the morning rush hour.

The incident – the nature of which has not yet been confirmed – happened on Tuesday evening (February 3) close to The Innovation Centre in Oxford Street.

A cordon was set up near the crossing and section of the pavement outside the building from before 6pm.

Leicestershire Police confirmed the road had been closed at the junction with Grange Lane while officers “deal with an incident”, but haven’t confirmed exactly what’s happened.
