Daniels praised his players after they earned a point and pushed for more in the 0-0 draw at Hull City, just days after Javi Gracia’s sudden departure.
The Spaniard ended his second spell at Vicarage Road on Sunday after calling for talks with owner Gino Pozzo following a 2-0 home defeat to Swansea.
Watford moved to put an interim coaching team in place, with under-21s lead coach Daniels stepping up alongside Adrian Mariappa and Dan Gosling.
And Daniels expects to continue to lead the side for this weekend’s trip to St Mary’s, adding: “Unless I’m told otherwise, yeah. That’s the plan.
“Luckily, on Sunday we were prepping for our under-21s game today against QPR. We were actually on the pitch at the time when we got called in.
“We went up to see (chairman) Scott Duxbury, and he informed us that obviously Javi was leaving and we were going to take charge.
“I don’t really know too much more than that. We say control the controllable. From one training session, the response has been really pleasing.
“They’ve taken on board what we’ve said and what we’ve asked of them and they’ve implemented it. It showed in our performance.”
Saints take on Watford at 12:31pm on Saturday, February 7, with kick-off one minute later than usual due to a British Heart Foundation campaign.
Watford are eighth in the Championship standings on 44 points, four points ahead of 14th-place Saints, with 16 league matches left this season.
